Khyal on 1700-luvulla muotonsa saanut pohjoisintialaisen taidemusiikin tyyli. Se on koristeellisempaa ja kevyempää kuin sitä vanhempi dhrupad-tyyli, mutta silti tiukemmin säveljärjestelmään (raaga) ja esityksen rytmiseen ulottuvuuteen (taala) sidottu kuin sitä nuorempi thumri-tyyli. Yunus Husain Khan (1927–1991) on sukunsa kymmenes Agra gharanan (koulukunnan) edustaja, joka sai oppinsa isältään Vilayat Husain Khanilta ja enoiltaan Faiyyaz ja Azmat Husain Khanilta. Tällä tuplalevyllä Yunus esittää raagat Pat Bihag, Chandini Kedar, Rageshri ja Lalita Sohini. Kaikista kappaleista käy ilmi Yunus Husain Khanin ilmiömäinen keskittyminen raagojen perimmäisen luonteen esilletuomisessa. Levy on koostettu konserteista, jotka pidettiin Amsterdamissa vuonna 1973. Molemmilla CD:illä on mittaa yli 72 minuuttia, joten tässä on rahoille vastinetta! |
